The next show in my Classic Concert Series is from Sydney, 1986. Three weeks after this show, I was booked in to have throat surgery and was worried I would never sing again. Well, if that was to be the case, I was going to go out on a high! The outfits Bob Mackie designed for me were typically fabulous and I’m incredibly proud of how well Bernie and my songs translated to being performed with the 88-piece Melbourne Sydney Orchestra. Resplendent in Bob Mackie freaked-out formal wear and purple wig, Elton concluded his “Tour de Force” of Australia with a powerful performance of 31 songs, just three weeks before enduring throat surgery. If this was to be his last concert, he was going out in style. In the case of Bennie And The Jets, that meant expanding a 5-minute song into a 12-minute master class in musicality and showmanship.
