Thomas Edison made the first tinfoil cylinder phonograph on December 6th, 1877, and recorded himself reciting "Mary Had a Little Lamb." Despite the fact that the first audio recording of a human voice was made in 1860, Edison wasn't the first inventor to record his own voice. Nevertheless, Edison's recording helped to secure the patent for his phonograph and spur further development in the field of sound recording technology.
