A Queen's student's hunch led to the discovery of a rare tidal seagrass habitat at the mouth of Strangford Lough. Seagrass was once widespread in Ireland’s shallow coastal waters, but like much of Europe, it has suffered significant losses due to coastal development, pollution, and disease. Rebekah Bajkó was investigating the remotely harvested data provided by the Daera’s ‘Coastal Observatory’ viewer and noticed a distinctive pattern in tide-swept Granagh Bay at the Narrows of Strangford Lough.
