China's conservation efforts may help the elusive Amur leopard to survive, after being on the brink of extinction. #DestinationWild | National Geographic Animals

The Amur leopard (Panthera pardus orientalis) is critically endangered. As of recent estimates, fewer than 100 individuals are believed to remain in the wild, with some reports indicating around 70 to 80 individuals. They primarily inhabit the Russian Far East and northeastern China. These majestic cats are endangered due to: 1. Habitat Loss: Deforestation, human settlement, and infrastructure development have fragmented their habitat, making it difficult for the leopards to find food and mates.
