Night vision video of Storm Petrels returning ashore to Mousa Broch last night, filmed by Hugh. An unexpected surprise for our Walk Shetland group on what was the last Storm Petrel watching trip of the season. Many thanks to everyone at the Mousa Ferry for their huge efforts over the last couple of months. They ensured all of our spring and summer groups witnessed this spectacular sight. 💞 360 Degrees of BROCH! 💞 Love this scan of Mousa Broch by Steve Colmer (@steve_studio on Instagram) of Lateral North. The recipient of the "Official Best Broch in the World 2020" award after our epic #WorlfCupOfBrochs Tournament, Mousa is the best-preserved Broch in Scotland. Here's the key takeaway facts: 📏 Mousa stands at 44 feet high, making it the tallest Broch in Scotland. 👴 It is thought to have been built around 100 BC, over 2,000 years ago! 🧱 It has a tiny internal diameter at 6m,

Step back in time at the Mousa Broch, widely considered the best-preserved and most complete broch in the world. Standing strong for over 2,000 years, this ancient stone structure rises 13 meters high—and it’s still intact! Accessible only by boat, the tiny island of Mousa is also home to storm petrels, which nest in the broch’s walls during summer nights. Imagine watching the sunset with seabirds circling an Iron Age fortress. Onward Voyager, Find 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 Shetland — Discover stunning coastal l

Deeply saddened to hear of Tom Jamieson’s passing yesterday. Tom operated the Mousa Boat for many years and it was with Tom back in 2006 that we first recorded and documented the now famous 27s Orca pod (below) in Shetland waters and enjoyed hundreds of midnight trips with our groups to see Storm Petrels at the World-famous Mousa Broch. He will be missed. The many memories will never be forgotten. | Shetland Wildlife

Have you ever heard of a Scottish broch before? I hadn’t until I came to Shetland, but there are many incredible Iron Age stone towers dotted around northern Scotland. Clickimin Broch is one of the best preserved, and it’s amazing to imagine what life was like here 2,000 years ago. 📍Clickimin Broch, Lerwick, Shetland #clickiminbroch #shetlandhistory #shetlandislands #scotlandtravel #ancientscotland | Ruth Aisling

Between Golspie and Brora is Carn Liath or “the Grey Cairn”. This broch occupies a terrace overlooking the shore, has walls that are still 12ft high in places, and comes complete with a well preserved entrance passage and lintelled doorway. The remains of the broch are still impressive. The interior is deeper than the exterior, which remains partially banked. In the entrance passage is a cavity that was possibly used to guard the broch. And on the opposite side of the broch from the entrance is

Here's something that you can only do in Shetland - take a midnight boat trip to climb a 2000 year old tower! This is Mousa Broch and even in the twilight, it's impressive. Brochs are Iron Age, drystone towers found mostly around the North and west of Scotland.
