The US president applauded the arrival of Mr Putin as the Russian leader landed at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Alaska.

The leaders walked along two red carpets from their respective aircraft, meeting in the middle of the tarmac to shake hands.

The accident happened when the train collided with a vehicle at a level crossing, the company in charge of operating the Denmark rail network said.
