A Shawnee, Kansas, man drowned Saturday at Stockton Lake. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported the man was swimming around 6 p.m. in the lake’s first cove west of Stockton Dam.
At more than 11,000 acres, it’s one the largest lakes in Kansas. Built in 1966 by damming the Delaware River, the lake (and dam) was named for the nearby city of Perry, about four miles south.
