A Supreme Court ruling this week upholding a Tennessee law that bans many gender-affirming treatments for minors could put added strain on Minnesota providers of care. Minnesota’s protections for transgender youth remain protected under state law.

Most forthcoming of the party’s potential 2028 contenders was Gov. JB Pritzker of Illinois, who has a transgender cousin, and who wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, that Illinois has protections to "meet this very moment.”

The justices ruled that Tennessee’s law, which prohibited some medical treatments for transgender youths, did not violate equal protection principles.
