Lee Joo-Sil, ‘Squid Games’ Actress, Dies At 81
Lee Joo-Sil, who played Park Mal Soon, the mother of undercover detective Hwang Joon-Ho (Wi Ha Joon) and stepmother of Hwang In Ho (Lee Byang Hun) in the second season of Netflix’s dystopian drama Squid Games, died at her family home in Uijeongbu, South Korea on February 2. She was 81 and was diagnosed with stomach cancer in November 2024.

Squid Game and Train to Busan actress Lee Joo-sil has died, aged 81. South Korean newspaper The Chosun Ilbo reports that Lee passed away in her family home in Uijeongbu of stomach cancer, a diagnosis that she had received in November.
