Another day, another new ninth-inning option for the Red Sox. Garrett Whitlock dominated Sunday, but that doesn't mean Aroldis Chapman is hurt.

According to Newsweek's Andrew Wright, Red Sox closer Aroldis Chapman is considered a trade candidate for the New York Mets, who are looking to address their own bullpen issues.

Aroldis Chapman is with the Red Sox, pitching at nearly peak form after several mediocre seasons that began in his latter stages with the Yankees.

Chapman pitched the final two games in New York over the weekend, saving both games, then went for a third straight day in the 10th inning of Monday’s loss to the Rays. He didn’t pitch Tuesday (Weissert got the save in that one) but closed out Wednesday’s win, then threw 14 pitches Friday. That was likely his limit entering Saturday.

The New York Mets have a glaring hole in their bullpen, and the trade deadline will be their best opportunity to fill it. The untimely season-ending injury to A.J. Minter in April left the Mets without a reliable left-handed reliever for high-leverage spots.

The Boston Red Sox will face tough decisions at the trade deadline, including whether or not to move on from closer Aroldis Chapman.
