The Tacoma police chief formally submitted his letter of resignation to City Manager Elizabeth Pauli Tuesday afternoon.

After all, the federal government isn’t funded until the end of this fiscal year. Spending will run out in mid-March, and lawmakers will have to pass another stopgap bill to keep agencies open.
