Caption [Upper right] --This is a Hubble Space Telescope image of galaxy NGC 1277. The galaxy is unique in that it is considered a relic of what galaxies were like in the early universe.
A program called Every Known Nearby Galaxy is using Hubble to observe every galaxy located within 10 megaparsecs of Earth that has not yet been imaged.
NGC 3603 is a prominent star-forming region in the Carina spiral arm of the Milky Way, about 20,000 light-years away. This image shows a young star cluster surrounded by a vast region of dust and gas.
This image, taken with the VLT Survey Telescope hosted at ESO’s Paranal Observatory, shows the beautiful nebula NGC 6164/6165, also known as the Dragon’s Egg.
Images of NGC 7582 captured by the MUSE instrument on the VLT. The right shows ionized distributed throughout the galaxy. The left provides a more traditional view of the galaxy.
Astronomers have captured a spectacular image that shows the magnificent spiral galaxy NGC 3981 in all its glory. The spiral arms of the galaxy—which lies in the constellation Crater (the Cup ...
NASA and ESA have shared an image taken by the Hubble Space Telescope showing the trailing arms of a galaxy called NGC 2276. The galaxy is about 120 million light-years away from Earth in the ...
The image offers a choice view of NGC 3981's spiral arms, as well as its bright center, which is home to a supermassive black hole. It also features several stars from the Milky Way in its ...
NGC 2814, along with another irregular galaxy (IC 2458) and a spiral galaxy (NGC 2820), form a trio located roughly 230,000 light years away from the very large galaxy NGC 2805.
