The Laken Riley Act passed the House of Representatives on Tuesday afternoon, the first piece of federal legislation approved by the 119th Congress after the House agreed to its rules for the term.

"We'll have to see what the new administration wants and what Congress does in the spending bills," said Bloomberg Government Deputy News Director Loren Duggan.

Forty-eight Democrats joined Republicans in voting for the bill, which is the first to pass the newly elected House.
