To deal with runaway production, state legislators are proposing two bills that would not only raise the cap for California's film and TV tax credit program but also expand eligibility for productions.

A group of Los Angeles-based California legislators have introduced bills in the state assembly and senate to expand the Golden State's film and television tax credit program, marking the next step in a campaign to halt the flight of productions to other states and countries that was launched by Gov.

The California State Legislature has acknowledged that money alone may not be enough to entice production back to the state, introducing a pair of bills Wednesday aimed at bolstering Gov. Gavin Newsom’s plan to expand the state’s Film and Television Tax Credit Program.

Two bills were introduced Wednesday aimed at strengthening the current film and tax credit program in California, this follows Governor Gavin Newsom’s announcement this past fall to more than double the annual tax incentive cap to $750 million a year.
