As Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and the Legislature continue their feud over immigration, the governor proposed a $115.6 billion budget for next fiscal year, along with a recommendation to add $505 million to the current budget for state and local law enforcement agencies to help federal officials deport unauthorized immigrants.

The proposal is an initial step as lawmakers prepare to negotiate a final budget during the legislative session. It includes tax cuts and a firearms sales tax holiday.

The highlights include new tax relief, such as a “Second Amendment Summer” tax holiday from Memorial Day to July 4, exempting ammo and firearms.

With a proposed Florida budget of $115.6 billion, which would leave $14.6 billion in reserves, Gov. Ron DeSantis said fiscal responsibility will be the theme for his 2025-26 spending plan, and his budget’s name this year reflects that.
