Shane Bieber's career in Cleveland is over. The Guardians get a new starting pitcher from the Blue Jays in return.

However, they did swing one noteworthy deal, shipping off Shane Bieber to the Toronto Blue Jays for pitching prospect Khal Stephen. A few days after the deal, former MLB executive Jim Bowden of The Athletic deemed this the best trade at the deadline, but not for the Guardians.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Guardians have traded former Cy Young winner Shane Bieber to the Blue Jays. Bieber, who won the Cy Young in 2020, has been recovering from Tommy John surgery since April of 2024. He made a rehab start for Class AA Akron on Tuesday in which he threw four innings.
