Philadelphia has been stuck in a snow drought, with four straight winters of below-average snowfall. But there is some hope for snow lovers this season.

Early forecasts by meteorologists are predicting that parts of the U.S., especially the Midwest and Northern areas, should brace themselves for heavy snow and winter storms over the Thanksgiving week, raising serious concerns about travel disruptions, hazardous road conditions, and delays for holiday plans.

This Friday is “potentially the worst” day for early Thanksgiving travel, according to the Weather Channel. The Gulf Coast could experience some potential storms, while the Mississippi and Ohio valleys, as well as the Central Plains, could see heavy rainfall. The central Rockies could also see some lingering snow.

The National Weather Service issued an updated winter weather advisory at 6:59 a.m. on Monday in effect until 1 p.m. for Clearfield County.

The Climate Prediction Center, a division of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), released its long-range forecast for December 2025 through February 2026 on Thursday. The outlook tells two different stories: a cold, wet winter for some states versus a hot, dry season for others.

Yosemite is included in a winter weather advisory issued by the National Weather Service on Thursday at 2:23 a.m. The advisory is valid from 10 a.m. until Friday Nov. 21, at 10 a.m.
