HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Solo Ball scored a career-high 26 points and Tarris Reed Jr. added 16 as No. 5 UConn began Big East play Tuesday night with a 79-60 victory over Butler. Drayton Jones had nine of his 13 points in the first half for Butler (8-3, 1-1). Azavier Robinson and Evan Haywood finished with 10 apiece.
Sarah Strong had 22 points and seven rebounds in three quarters to lead the top-ranked UConn women’s basketball team to a 89-53 win over Marquette. Azzi Fudd had 14 points in 23 minutes, Blanca Quinones added 12 points and Serah Williams finished with 11 points and six rebounds for UConn in the final home game for the Huskies in the calendar year.
The UConn women’s basketball team will play its first game at Madison Square Garden in nearly a decade against St. John’s on March 1.
