Freezing rain, sleet, snow to hit Northeast as storm nears
A storm system is set to approach the Northeast overnight Tuesday, Jan. 6, into Wednesday, Jan. 7, bringing a messy mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain that could make for a slippery morning commute.
A round of steady snow overspreads the region late Tuesday evening, becoming most widespread overnight through sunrise Wednesday. Mixing with sleet, freezing rain and rain is likely in the St. Lawrence Valley and through the colder hollows of southern Vermont.
A quick-moving burst of freezing rain is pelting parts of Michigan Tuesday, making travel hazardous in some areas.

A milder winter pattern expands across the work-and-school week in Upper Michigan -- a reprieve from the bitter cold and pummeling snow.
