Waterbury police said the stepson, now 32, weighed just 68 pounds when they found him. His stepmother, Kimberly Sullivan, has been charged with kidnapping and cruelty.

A woman allegedly held her “severely emaciated” stepson in captivity for over 20 years, since he was 11 years old, and forced him to endure “prolonged abuse."

A man in western Waterbury, Connecticut intentionally set his home on fire to escape after allegedly being held captive by his stepmother for more than 20 years. Police said the 32-year-old man was “extremely emaciated” and the Waterbury Chief of Police called it “the worst treatment of humanity” he has witnessed in his 33 year career.

Police say the man, who set a fire to escape, was held captive by his stepmother from age 11. He weighed 68 pounds when he was freed.
