A major winter storm is pummeling the Tri-State Area with snow and ice after New York and New Jersey declared states of emergency.
Some more snow is headed to the New York City area this weekend, according to the National Weather Service. Light snow showers and frigid temperatures hovering around 33 degrees are in the forecast for Saturday.
In Rochester, December 2025 was the snowiest December in 25 years, though it still fell short of the record 46.7 inches set in December 2010. Buffalo’s snowiest December remains 2017, when more than 64 inches fell around the Christmas holiday, paralyzing the region, according to the National Weather Service.
Upstate New York rang in the new year under a blanket of snow as a back-to-back winter storms left roads slick and some of the heaviest snowfall in decades.
