The Cowboys have waived cornerback Trevon Diggs. The move ends a tumultuous final season a game early in a Dallas career that never lived up to the promise of a 2021 All-Pro performance that included 11 interceptions.
If a team is awarded Diggs off the waiver wire, it will assume his contract. Diggs has three years remaining on a five-year, $97 million contract extension, but all the guaranteed money has been paid. The contract calls for Diggs to be paid $14.5 million in 2026, $19.5 million in 2027 and $20 million in 2028.

Clowney was caught grabbing onto rookie running back Omarion Hampton’s facemask as the latter rushed for a 1-yard gain. While facemask violations usually result in a 15-yard penalty, Clowney’s infraction was offset by an offensive holding penalty on Chargers fullback Scott Matlock.
While the NFC East has been decided, three of four teams in the division won in Week 17. The Philadelphia Eagles (11-5) survived in Buffalo, as the Dallas Cowboys (7-8-1) took down the Washington Commanders (4-12) on Christmas Day.
