OpenAI, the owner of ChatGPT, issued a statement on Thursday following a global outage of the AI-powered chatbot, attributing the issue to a problem with its provider, which caused high error rates. The company assured users that the issue would be resolved soon and that full recovery was underway.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT faced a massive global outage yesterday with thousands of users unable to access the AI chatbot. According to Downdetector, the outage began at 5 PM IST yesterday with complaints reported from users slowing down by 8 PM eventually.

Initially, ChatGPT was based on the GPT-3.5 architecture and it was designed to have human-like interactions. Upon its launch, the chatbot quickly became popular owing to its ability to write, code, and answer any query. In 2023, OpenAI upgraded ChatGPT with GPT-4, enhancing the model’s reasoning abilities and contextual understanding.
