Freezing rain, sleet, snow to hit Northeast as storm nears
A storm system is set to approach the Northeast overnight Tuesday, Jan. 6, into Wednesday, Jan. 7, bringing a messy mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain that could make for a slippery morning commute.
A low-pressure system is moving through tonight and will bring a messy stretch of wintry weather, with a Winter Weather Advisory in effect for much of central New York from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning!
National Weather Service describes forecast as "tricky" with most areas expecting 1-2 inches of snow before transition to ice that could damage trees and power lines.
Much of the GTA is under a freezing rain yellow warning this morning as a messy mix of winter weather arrives Monday.
A report was issued from the National Weather Service on Tuesday at 10:01 p.m. for freezing rain until Wednesday at 1 a.m. for Onondaga, Madison, Cortland, Chenango and Broome counties.
