Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman arrived at the North Block, which houses the Ministry of Finance, ahead of the presentation of the Union Budget 2025.

The spotlight this time would also be on spending on key schemes like NREGA as well as key sectors like health and education.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that no income tax will be paid by people with income up to Rs 12 lakh. The rebate was earlier up to Rs 7 lakh income. With standard deduction at Rs 75,000, people with income up to Rs 12.75 lakh would not have to pay any tax. Earlier, the tax payable till Rs 12 Lakh was Rs 80,000.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the top priorities of Budget 2025 will be to boost growth and enhance the spending power of the middle class.
