At least 37 people were reported dead over the weekend after storms and tornadoes wreaked havoc across multiple states. Reports of deaths related to the storm began on Friday, and dozens more were confirmed through the weekend, according to the Nationa Weather Service.

A severe storm on Monday swept through the U.S. Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, bringing thunderstorms, hail, damaging winds and the potential for tornadoes. Days earlier, the same ferocious weather system spawned violent twisters,

Eleven storm-related fatalities were reported in the Missouri counties of Ozark, Butler, Wayne and Jefferson, the state highway patrol said. Three people were confirmed dead in Independence County, Arkansas, the state's emergency management division said. Four were reported dead in Texas, officials said Saturday.

The dynamic storm from Friday through Sunday had earned an unusual “high risk” designation from weather forecasters.

Over the past 24 hours, more than 40 reported tornadoes have swept across eight states in the Midwest and South -- and the dangerous severe weather threat continues. The eight states with reported tornadoes in the past day are Alabama, Missouri, Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Illinois, Indiana and Tennessee.
