As the end of Brown University’s fall semester approached, Ella Cook ’s plans were much like those of any other student: finish her economics exam, turn in a final paper for French, and travel home to spend the holidays with her family in Alabama.

In the days since the shooting, Ella Cook has been painted as a conservative crusader on a campus of liberals. Cook’s friends said there was far more to her life than politics.

The 19-year-old Mountain Brook High School graduate is being remembered for her love for all people, especially children, and her deep faith. Ella Cook, a college sophomore concentrating in French and mathematics-economics, was one of two students killed in the Saturday afternoon gunfire that also wounded nine others.
