A coalition of 20 states on Wednesday sued the Trump administration over its decision to shut down a multibillion-dollar grant program aimed at strengthening infrastructure before natural disasters strike.

The administration called the program “wasteful” and “politicized” when announcing its termination. The states argue it’s highly effective.

A coalition of states — including New York and New Jersey, which just experienced flash flooding that killed two — are suing the Trump administration over its abrupt cancellation of hundreds of millions of dollars of natural disaster preparedness funding.
